Permission for an Intermission When you woke up this morning was your body talking to you? Maybe it was screaming at you. As much as exercise is important for your health and development, rest should be just as highly prioritized and valued. If you need permission, here it is: at least once a week, take a break and chill. Rest Easy Just like your car should be left alone after a 500 mile trip, your body should too. When you have an intense workout your body is pushed to the limits and that’s a good thing. But it needs time to process and heal from the exertion. Your muscles need to clear themselves of toxins and your joints need to recover. Your blood needs to carry the toxins from your muscles to be metabolized and flushed out, ready for the next workout or battle for betterment, if you will. Assuming you’ve been taking my advice and eating well to fuel your magnificent machine, your body is more than capable of doing handling regular daily sessions of intensity and more. It just needs a little break every so often to restore and stay healthy. What to Do? Settle into your yoga mat and stretch out all of your joints and muscles for a while in the comfort while binging through your favorite Netflix or Hulu series. Fill your tub with lavender bath salts and turn on your favorite music while you allow the waters warmth to soak into body and loosen any built up tension from the week. Better yet, splurge on a decadent massage just for yourself this weekend and let a professional take their time turning you into a pool of happy goo with their masterful techniques. Anything that allows your body an opportunity to truly unwind and feel good is ideal. So, whatever relaxation technique you prefer, just do it with joy. Close your eyes and let your body rebuild itself. A Season for Restoration For everything there is a season; a time to strengthen and a time to rejuvenate. Consider it the perk that you’ve truly earned by working on becoming the strongest, most beautiful version of yourself. Your body will thank you and so will the rest of you! Comments are closed.
