Don't Stress, Keep Moving The global Covid 19 (i.e. 2019 novel corona virus disease) pandemic has many of us at home, pretty much looking like this lovely woman right now. But you don’t have to stay in bed in a fetal position, afraid to do anything. Growth, Now If you’ve been following my advice you’re already strong and healthy with a fortified immune system. (If you aren’t it’s a great time to work on that!) While working from home or furloughed from your job temporarily, use this time to your advantage. Do that morning yoga routine you never have time for. Reflect, affirm, renew and grow strong. If you’re out there saying “easier said than done,” I’ll give you some ideas for progress and elevation right off the bat. Physicality You can check out the free Elevate wellness app for daily fitness guides, dieting tips, and healthy habits. The link to try it is the on the homepage of this website. Also, to mix it up try streaming a workout video. Turn on your favorite music and pretend you’re at the club to win a dance contest. Sweat and have fun! Try something new like kickboxing or Tai Chi. Shout, "yes" to something new, girl! Don’t let boredom based snacking become a nasty habit that you’ll have to break later. The key is to move your body for a minimum of 30 heart pumping minutes a day. It's also an incredibly uplifting and motivating way to start the day. For example, even thought the local fitness centers are closed due to Covid 19, I still start each day with an invigorating run on the trail, around a local baseball field, or in my neighborhood with some good tunes each morning before doing anything else to get myself going, and stay fit. Nutrition Use this time to throw out any unhealthy food purchases you’ve made and recommit to healthy eating. We see that bag of Snickers in your cabinet….. get rid of it! If you don’t you will end up eating all of them and you will go back to work with tight pants. You’ll feel disappointed with yourself and that starts a bad spiral. Once you’ve done that, keep that progress vibe going by taking an online cooking course. Learn how to prepare fresh ingredients with herbs. Savor the actual flavors of the food instead of all the chemical enhancers in processed dishes. Once you actually taste healthy foods again you won’t even want go back. Plus, you'll find that after you understand and feel truly comfortable with the process of blending fresh ingredients together, you'll actually seek out opportunities to mix things up, experiment, and simply cook things up for fun! Creativity A little series bingeing on Netflix is to be expected but don’t let that eat up all this valuable time. If you already have artistic tendencies now’s your moment to express yourself without the pressure of having to be somewhere. Paint, knit, write, craft, sew – do your thing! One fun idea is to consider taking some brightly colored acrylic paint and giving a splash of color to an old yoga or exercise mat with some funky patterns or inspiring phrases that are personally meaningful to you. It's a beautiful way to engage the part of your brain that is stimulated by problem-solving and positive thinking, and harnessing it for your journey towards self-growth and strength. #Elevate! Learn What have you always wanted to learn but never had time for? Explore affordable online courses from Udemy, Blueprint, Domestika or Master Class. Sign up for an online course at a local college or university. Teach yourself how to play an instrument. Whatever your passion, here’s your chance! Hopefully if you’ve read this far you’re feeling less anxious and more motivated. You might be keeping your social distance but it doesn’t mean you should keep distance from yourself or who you want to be. Comments are closed.
